The Russell Institute, Paisley

The Russell Institute, donated to Paisley by Miss Agnes Russell in memory of her two bachelor brothers Robert and Thomas who died in 1913 and 1920, has been an iconic edifice situated at the corner of New Street and Causeyside Street in Paisley since it was constructed in the 1930's.
It is an astonishingly beautiful building built in an ornate art deco design, adorned by a host of cherubic figures who are watched over by an enormous bronze angel that sits in care high over the main entrance.
It was decided recently that it was no longer of any use as a modern clinical space by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, who most recently housed the Sandyford clinic within her audacious walls.
when I was a very small child in the 1960's the building was part of NHS Argyll and Clyde and was one of many community medical resources.
The Paisley development organisation is currently holding an online survey in order to establish how folks would like the building to be used within community ownership. This building should not ever be allowed to be lost to a town that has made some dodgy planning decision over the past 50 or so years. Find the survey at the Paisley development site and complete the survey.
History of this nature must be preserved and what a venue it would be for some kind of cultural or artistic excellence.
