Beyond the light
On the edge of darkness
A hope remains
The hands of kindness

As they reach towards me
I feel their comfort
Friends for now
Tomorrow
Sadness

The thorns in life that cause my pain
Relent, but only
When they refrain
From offering me
The slings that hurt me
The tears once gentle
Now flowing freely

I am I
You are you
I'll never say words
In the hope that I'd wound
If you decide to play that way
You might die lonely
Me
I am not afraid

The light grows stronger
As I open my eyes
My wings will lift me
Up into the skies
The ground below will never scar me
If soaring above

It cannot touch me.
